By recognizing this unique common enough anaphylactic complication in dogs (unique to dogs) you are less likely to inadvertently take one of these medically-treated heparin-induced anaphylactic hemoabdomen dogs to surgery (anecdotally unlikely to survive if you do take to surgery).  Note that coagulation profiles can be normal to minimally affected in dogs with a medically-treated heparin-induced anaphylactic hemoabdomen.  In other words, coagulation profiles do NOT predict the presence of this unique canine subset of non-traumatic hemoabdomen (Ryan et al.’s work).
