What You’ll Learn:
GlobalFAST® Point of Care Ultrasound – the combined use of AFAST®, TFAST® and Vet BLUE® as a single format used as an extension of the physical exam. Teaching is practical and heavily case-based.
AFAST®
*Understand image acquisition and target-organ approach for soft tissue abnormalities.
*Understand why ultrasound is better as a soft tissue screening test for abnormalities missed or only suspected by physical exam, blood and urine testing, and radiography.
*Understand the abdominal fluid scoring system for bleeding and non-bleeding patients.
*Small volume versus large volume bleeder-effusion concept.
*Decision-making regarding transfusions and surgical intervention.
*Tracking tool for worsening, static, and improving effusions.
*Understand how to detect gallbladder wall edema, know its major rule outs and gain familiarity with medically treated anaphylactic hemoabdomen in dogs.
TFAST®
*Understand its 5-view format and image acquisition including fundamental echocardiography views.
*Understand the TFAST® rules for accurately detecting pleural and pericardial effusion.
*Understand the TFAST® diagnosis of pneumothorax and the lung point principle.
*Understand the fundamental TFAST® echo views and each view’s clinical utility (volume and contractility, left sided and right sided heart disease).
*Understand the EPIC guidelines and learn to obtain the echocardiography measurements needed for assessment of mitral valve disease dogs.
Vet BLUE® – the 6 Vet BLUE Lung Ultrasound Signs and its regional pattern-based approach for a working diagnosis. The ultrasound probe is our new stethoscope!
*Understand its 8-transthoracic views and the fundamental orientation of all lung ultrasound – the Gator Sign orientation.
*Understand the “Wet Lung” vs “Dry Lung” principle and how to develop a working diagnosis with the regional pattern-based approach of Vet BLUE®.
*Understand the Vet BLUE® B-line Scoring System and its inherent Severity Scoring System for monitoring patients with respiratory and heart disease.
*Understand the Vet BLUE® Visual Lung Language of Shred Sign, Tissue Sign, Nodule Sign, and Wedge Sign.
*Understand how to use Vet BLUE® to track or monitor patients.
*Understand the strengths and limitations of Vet BLUE® and lung ultrasound.
